Fall Entertaining: A Citrus-Inspired Baby Shower

For the next in our series on seasonal entertaining: a beautiful baby shower with details inspired by the citrus arrangements created especially for the occasion. To celebrate my friend Nicole and her soon-to-be-born baby boy, I wanted to create a fun and relaxed girls’ dinner that felt boy-themed without being too literal.

The Decor

To set the table and the scene, I began with Rachel Craven flax table clothes with simple gold stitching and rustic seating from Found Rentals around the table. On top, I used Heath plates in French gray and white, Mateo linen napkins, antique silverware, and Roly Poly glasses, a new addition to my Montecito store.

Across the table, we placed a number of lavender-scented candles in Weck jars that I found at Heath, as well as an assortment of vintage silver for both serving and decor.

As mentioned, the aesthetic of the shower was inspired in large part by its gorgeous citrus infused arrangements. Created by the incredibly talented Maurice of Bloom & Plume, the fruit and flower displays were comprised of tangerines, ranunculus, mocha amaryllis, Italian pittosporum, poppies, fern, passion vine, blackberries, mint, Patience garden roses and stephanotis, and placed in wood bowls.

The Menu & Sip

For small bites, the wonderful David, my family’s chef, created a beautiful spread of assorted cheeses, fruits, nuts and spreads, artfully displayed on a cheese board that I found at Hudson Grace in Montecito.

For our celebratory sip, Annie Campbell created the most delicious and inventive Kumquat Sour, a concoction that could be made with vodka, gin or tequila and incorporated fresh Meyer lemon juice and thyme simple syrup. We served them in my go-to Marta Tumblers from CB2, and had ice at the ready in my favorite leather ice bucket from Sol & Luna.

And lastly, a delicious finish in the form of Annie’s Vanilla Naked Layer Cake, a dessert so pretty we almost didn’t want eat it. Almost. XXJKE
