How to Make 3-Ingredient Tick Repellent

August 16, 2017

A woman sitting on grass with a white fluffy dog, smiling at a girl in a cream dress giving a treat to a large shaggy dog. All are outdoors in a green, sunny garden, enjoying the warmth while staying tick-aware.

Earlier this summer I shared a great recipe for making DEET-free insect repellent candles using essential oils and beeswax. Ticks are also a concern in the summer and for that, I find that this DIY spray, which I discovered through the blog Living Well Mom, does the trick. My family and I are currently spending a few weeks in Lake Tahoe and we’re outdoors practically all day, whether hiking, swimming, or just relaxing outside. I love that this spray is gentle enough for kid’s sensitive skin and doesn’t contain harmful ingredients so that we can use it every day without concern. It’s even safe for dogs! It’s comprised of just three ingredients—rose geranium oil, witch hazel, and water—so it couldn’t be easier to put together. In addition to repelling ticks, rose geranium oil also gently nourishes dry skin and enhances mood. Check out the recipe below! XXJKE
