DIY: An Herb Wreath with Amy Blessing
February 17, 2016

By now you know that I love decor of the all-natural variety – add handmade to the equation and I love it all the more. One of my favorites for such DIY projects: the lovely and talented Amy Blessing (her handmade pumpkin carving kit and naturally-decorated gingerbread houses seen here). With this in mind, she was kind enough to walk me through creating a gorgeous, fragrant herb wreath perfect for this or anytime of year (and even Rip joined in on the fun!). Her easy tips for creating this all-natural accent piece, below. XXJKE
AB: When creating this type of wreath, it’s best to use herbs that dry well, and for our wreath we used lavender (an herb used more for its look and smell, less for cooking), bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, rosemary and thyme.
– Begin by creating a circular base for your wreath, using grapevine and a very thin floral wire.
– Next, bundle together clusters of herbs as you see fit, again securing them together using your thin floral wire.
– Then, with your wire, attach these bundles primarily to the bottom half of your wreath, leaving some spots bare so that the grapevine is exposed.
– The finishing touch: a sweet wooden tag, accompanied by the message of your choice.
