Set the Table for Spring with Materia Lumina
It’s not typical that ceramics actually bring nature to the table. But in my experience most ceramics aren’t Materia Lumina, a line designed and crafted in the desert of Joshua Tree. The nontoxic, food-safe dishes and bowls are imprinted with indigenous elements foraged from the great outdoors, along with other fabrics and elements that set them apart from standard ceramics.
The wildly creative artist behind these pieces is my friend and shamanic healer, Eefje Theeuws. She hand-forms each one-of-a-kind vessel and seems to infuse them with her own spirit and healing energies. Her work is simple, elevated and always unique. I never tire of admiring Eefje’s pieces, which are practically sized and can be used as side bowls, serving dishes, coasters or even smudge bundle holders.
Although they can be juxtaposed with minimalist dishes as an accent, I love to set a table featuring only her beautiful creations. It’s so satisfying to spend time and put care into creating a tablescape. I hope you’re inspired to experiment with your own this season. XXJKE
