Natural Remedies: Shea Butter

As I’ve shared in past posts, I try to implement as many natural remedies into my life as possible. And one that is a part of my everyday routine is shea butter. Derived from the nut of the Karite tree – one indigenous to Africa – raw, unrefined shea butter is a skin superfood with an abundance of benefits and uses. Naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F as well as essential fatty acids, the distinctly-scented butter has been used for centuries for it moisturizing, nourishing, healing, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging properties.

Shown to improve elasticity, promote collagen production, heal cuts and scrapes, calm insect bites, relieve sunburn, ease muscle pain and tension, and protect against environmental damage, its uses for the skin are countless (I swear by it and lather myself in it before bed). But it’s also an amazing conditioning treatment for the hair, and as I learned from Evan Healy when we created our own, can even be eaten when in its purest form. Stay tuned tomorrow as I share some of my very favorites. XXJKE
