A Wreath-Making Workshop with Heather Taylor and Hollyflora

Last year I was invited to co-host a wreath-making workshop to benefit St. Joseph Center with the lovely Heather Taylor and the ladies behind Hollyflora. St. Joseph Center is an organization that provides working poor families and homeless people of all ages in Western Los Angeles with resources and tools to better their lives. It is such a wonderful organization, so deciding to co-host the workshop again this year with these talented ladies was a no-brainer. St. Joseph’s has an affordable housing program, operates a family center and food pantry, and offers culinary training and financial services to people in need.

At the workshop, Holly Vesecky of Hollyflora shared two holiday decorations for attendees to recreate to their own liking. One was a classic pine and eucalyptus wreath and one was a swag made of winter branches. The wreath was on a wire form and Holly instructed the group to manicure clusters of foliage into manageable bits, securing with paddle wire around the wreath as they went along. The swag was a similar process. Guests attached two large winter branches in opposing directions using wire, and then added additional foliage to fill out the garland. The event was hosted in Hollyflora’s beautiful workshop and studio in Mid-City with bites from Ammo Café. It was such a nice way to spend an evening with some great women, in addition to benefitting this important cause.
