Inside Marie von Behrens-Felipe’s St. Tropez Packing List
May 19, 2025
Every spring, Marie von Behrens-Felipe heads to St. Tropez with her family—a tradition that feels more like returning home than taking a trip. While the Sonsie founder thinks of herself as more of a go-with-the-flow kind of traveler, she’s mastered the art of packing in preparation. Below, Marie shares how she curates a capsule that strikes the perfect balance between practicality and personal style—plus she shares her favorite spots around town.

Inside Marie von Behrens-Felipe’s St. Tropez Packing List
Rip & Tan: How did you land on St. Tropez as your spring vacation destination? Had you been before?
Marie von Behrens-Felipe: We go every year—it’s a bit of a tradition. My family has been vacationing in St. Tropez for decades, so it’s our annual go-to. It feels like a second home by now. There’s something comforting about returning to the same cafés and the same beach spots.
Rip & Tan: How much of a planner are you on vacations—from planning outfits to planning an itinerary?
Marie von Behrens-Felipe: I’m definitely more of a “go with the flow” kind of person. Luckily, my husband likes organizing things, so I can relax a little. Since we know the area so well, there’s not much that needs planning—we have our favorite places, and then always discover a few new ones along the way. I don’t really plan outfits either—I stick to my staples, and everything mixes and matches effortlessly. It makes me feel at ease, knowing I’ll always have something that works without overthinking it.

Rip & Tan: What was on your packing list for St. Tropez? Any advice for those going on their own French holiday?
Marie von Behrens-Felipe: A classic striped sweater—perfect for breezy evenings when you’re walking back from dinner. Some worn-in denim shorts, comfy flats, and a big market basket that doubles as a beach bag. I like to keep it really simple, especially since I’m also packing for my daughter. A linen dress that works day to night is always in my suitcase. And sunglasses! I always bring a few—I love switching them depending on my mood or outfit. Also, I like to bring a summery bag that holds my book and face mist—the two things that instantly make me feel like I’m on holiday.
Rip & Tan: How would you describe your personal style while you’re traveling?
Marie von Behrens-Felipe: Comfort is everything, especially as a young mom. My style doesn’t really change much whether I’m at home or away—I’ve stayed true to it over the years. You’ll usually find me in denim or wide, flowy pants with my favorite cashmere sweater layered on top—the kind you’ve worn so much it feels like a second skin. I always bring a jacket or scarf—I hate being cold on flights, and for long hauls, I even bring my own blanket (and snacks). Now with Zoe, I carry one oversized tote bag with her toys, books, a change of clothes, and snacks.

Rip & Tan: Any tips for building a versatile travel capsule wardrobe?
Marie von Behrens-Felipe: I like to start with one special piece–something with a fabric or shape that feels playful–it helps shift into vacation mode. Then I add my staples. The pieces that make me feel like myself, no matter where I am. Traveling can sometimes feel overwhelming, and wearing something too “not me” can throw me off a little, so I try to find that sweet spot between familiar and fun. Oh, and don’t underestimate a really good pair of flat sandals—the kind that go from beach to dinner and still feel chic.
Rip & Tan: What did you do on your favorite day in St. Tropez?
Marie von Behrens-Felipe: We spent the morning at the antiques market–I love digging through the old books and ceramic pieces–and then visited the Fondation Maeght in the afternoon. It was sunny but not too hot, we had lunch under the trees, and Zoe napped in the car on the way home. One of those quiet, perfect days that feels slow and just right.
Rip & Tan: Any advice for those going on their own French holiday this spring?
Marie von Behrens-Felipe: Go to the markets! Pick up fresh produce–the courgette and artichokes in season are incredible–and cook a relaxed dinner at home after the beach. If you’re into cooking, try a local dish. I love a simple artichoke salad when they’re in season. If you’re traveling with friends or family, rent a boat for the day. Jump into the sea, eat something salty on deck, and stop at a tiny harbor for ice cream. These pleasures, that’s what you’ll remember the most.
