An Easy Summer Cocktail: The Paloma

Margaritas are a go-to cocktail in the summer but sometimes they can be a bit too sweet, or too strong, for their own good. That’s why I love this slightly more refreshing alternative: The Paloma. A well-known, well-loved cocktail in Mexico, the Paloma (Spanish for “dove”) is made with fresh grapefruit juice, lime, club soda, honey (in lieu of sugar), and either tequila or mezcal. Just like a margarita, it’s the ideal complement to fresh fish tacos and other light-but-spicy summer fare.

I love the casual charm of a rounded tumbler glass, but you could serve the Paloma in a classic highball as well. I recommend making a batch without tequila or mezcal for any non-drinkers or kids in the group. This drink is delicious with or without alcohol, and it’s always nice to include everyone in the fun!
