Rip & Tan: How would you describe your style and aesthetic?

TyLynn Nguyen: Elegant, modest, and classic.

Rip & Tan: Do you have any tips for someone trying to define their own personal style?

TyLynn Nguyen: Identify a few inspirational individuals whose style you like and see what the connection is to each that draws you to them. Realize that whatever you’ve identified is in you as well and then start from the basics: jeans, a trouser, a nice shirt, a tee, and a nice coat.

Then, as you build take your time and invest wisely by taking into account the stitching, how is the material, and so forth.

"All you need is a great tee, a classic button-up white shirt, and a well-fitting pair of denim."

Rip & Tan: What are 3-5 wardrobe essentials you think every woman should own?

TyLynn Nguyen: A great tee, a classic button-up white shirt, and a well-fitting pair of denim. That is three looks right there that you can wear over and over again!

Rip & Tan: How do you look beyond trends to focus on timeless closet staples?

TyLynn Nguyen: I think you look at the material, you look at the fit, and then you figure out the foundational pieces you’re looking to buy and then move on with your life. Overconsumption is terrible, so stick to what works and you won’t have to keep buying the same pieces over and over again. Also, find a great tailor, dry cleaners, and detergent to keep your clothes like new for longer.

Rip & Tan: Tell us a bit about these looks you styled. What was your approach to curating each outfit?

TyLynn Nguyen: Ease and beauty. I love when looks feel effortless and have a special beauty to them. I feel out a lot of my looks as I think style is really a feeling, an elegance, and an essence.
