Sourcebook: Sun Protection Canopies & Umbrellas

I’m always one to use sunscreen (both for myself and for my little ones) but oftentimes, additional forms of coverage are required, especially at the beach. Here are some of my favorites for natural sun protection in the form of sun canopies and umbrellas:

Canopies & Tents

It can be so hard to find beach tents that are chic and practical, but I’ve found a few that meet both requirements. I just ordered these beach tents from Austrailian brand Lovin Summer (if you email them they will ship to the US). My pick: the South Beach Tents.
Also from Australia: chic beach tents from Ginger & Gilligan. I love the look of these tents (particularly in the plain white and black and white stripes) and they are available in three sizes.
Other great options: this simple white tent and this cotton sun shade from Terrain.Umbrellas & Chair CoversI am obsessed with these printed beach umbrellas from Terrain and want to order them for Tahoe. And this one from Kerry Cassill, similar to those from Terrain, is great as well. For now, I have this umbrella that I found on Amazon, which is great for the beach, and comes in a variety of great stripes.

Whatever umbrella you choose, I highly suggest investing in an anchor such as this rust-proof lightweight anchor or this easy twist option.

Lastly, I’m kind of obsessed with this canopy that clips onto the back of your chair – it works perfectly with these high and low folding beach chairs. Stay tuned later this week for more natural sun protection favorites, this time in the form of rash guards. XXJKE
