Sourcebook: Shea Butter

As I mentioned yesterday, during our visit with the lovely Evan Healy we learned how to whip our own shea butter, and I loved both the process and the results. It’s something that anyone can do at home using raw shea butter, a kitchen mixer, and some of your favorite essential oils. And though the end product may not be quite as amazing as Evan’s, you can still get some great results. For those a little less adventurous or short on time, I’ve put together a list of some raw and unrefined picks (ones with the nutrient content intact, allowing you to reap all the benefits):

I’ve been using Cosmedix Rescue Balm & Mask, with cherry extracts, willow herb and shea butter, ever since Terri Lawton turned me onto it several years back. I apply to my face daily, and its ability to soothe and calm the skin are amazing. Other favorites: Sun Potion Wildcrafted Shea Butter, and of course Evan Healy’s Whipped Patchouli Vanilla Shea Butter and her Whipped Shea Butter with Olive Leaf.

Some others to try: this Unrefined Organic Shea Butter from Better Shea Butter, this raw, organic grade A ivory shea butter from Molivera Organics, NOW Foods natural shea butter, and this Lavender Organic Shea Butter Balm and Rose Garden Organic Shea Butter Balm from Angel Face Botanicals. XXJKE
