In Uniform: Sara Covey’s Guide to Spring Living & Dressing
March 11, 2025
When it comes to capturing the warmth and beauty of life’s simplest moments, photographer Sara Covey has an exceptionally keen eye. Intentionality and thoughtfulness are evident in every frame she captures, which is why we couldn’t resist asking her to share her thoughts on embracing the season of spring—both through fashion and how she spends her time. Below, we sit down with Sara to discuss how spring’s arrival inspires her to soak up the present moment.

Rip & Tan: How would you describe your style?
Sara Covey: Comfort is always my top priority when it comes to my style. I tend to gravitate towards more relaxed, simple silhouettes.
Rip & Tan: What’s your daily approach to getting dressed? How does it change from season to season?
Sara Covey: Color and texture are the main things I consider when getting dressed each morning. I love living somewhere with seasons because of the variety it brings to my wardrobe. In the winter, I love rougher, chunkier wool knits with plenty of texture, and in the spring, I’ll typically reach for a soft, finer knit (i.e. cashmere). I also love that each season has its own color palette–different colors sing in different seasons.
Rip & Tan: What are you most looking forward to as we make our way into spring?
Sara Covey: The change in colors. I’m really big on wearing color and love the fresh colors that spring introduces–it feels like a breath of fresh air. Butter yellows, robin-egg blues, zippy greens–it creates a wave of energy and excitement for the new season.

Rip & Tan: What’s on your seasonal bucket list?
Sara Covey: Gardening! Up until this year, we’ve been living in apartments but we just bought our first home and are planning out our first family garden! There’s a lot to learn and I’m really excited about it.
Rip & Tan: Are there any activities you love to do with your family this time of year?
Sara Covey: I love cooking with my family, scavenger hunts, creating patterns with small rocks/shells, crafts, and picnics.
Rip & Tan: How would you describe your relationship to nature? How does it influence your personal style and general aesthetic?
Sara Covey: Our relationship with nature has become a top priority for us since leaving Chicago. We wanted to prioritize living somewhere with a strong outdoor culture and Utah feels like where we are supposed to be. We try to spend time in the mountains every day–whether it’s walking, cold-plunging in the river, bird-watching, or enjoying a meal outside. I love it so much.
