Curated By Mélanie Masarin: The Holiday Gift Guide

November 10, 2025

Say hello to our annual Holiday Gift Guide, where every week we turn to our favorite tastemakers for inspiration on what—and how—to give this season. This week, we turned to Mélanie Masarin, founder and CEO of Ghia, the beloved non-alcoholic aperitif brand inspired by Mediterranean aperitivo culture. With its ethos centered around slowing down, savoring the moment, and celebrating togetherness, we figured she’d have a similarly mindful perspective on the holiday season—and she does. Keep reading for Mélanie’s thoughts on meaningful giving, inclusive hosting, and what she’s gifting her loved ones this year.

Rip & Tan: What’s your approach to gifting this year?

Mélanie Masarin: This year, my family and I decided to pick one person at random—one meaningful gift instead of many small ones. It takes away the stress (and the math), and makes room for something truly thoughtful. We still allow stocking stuffers under $50, which keeps it lighthearted and fun.

Rip & Tan: How do you find the right gift for different people in your life?

Mélanie Masarin: I love giving gifts much more than receiving them. It’s my favorite language of love. I keep endless notes in my phone—little things people mention liking or needing. When the holidays arrive, I already have a list of ideas that feel personal instead of last-minute. I’m also always at a flea market or scouring Etsy, and I like the “off-cycle” gift giving just as much, if not more!

Rip & Tan: Do you have a signature way of wrapping gifts?

Mélanie Masarin: I like to try new things, but I also want to keep them sustainable. My mom has a lot of beautiful deadstock fabric and ribbons, so one year I wrapped everything in newspapers and had these beautiful fabric trims over them. Another year, I used old travel magazines and tied a bow with silver tinsel–it was so pretty. I also like to cut out shapes (a la Matisse) and string them on kitchen rope. It’s just fun to have different types and do a bit of arts and crafts, so every present feels a little one-of-a-kind

Rip & Tan: Any staple traditions you’re looking forward to?

Mélanie Masarin: When I was little, my grandmother and I used to make the treize desserts—the thirteen traditional sweets from Provence. This year, since we’ll be fewer at the table, I’m planning a Grand Aioli the day after Christmas—steamed vegetables, fish, and plenty of garlic. It’s light, communal, and one of my favorite recipes from my upcoming cookbook, Riviera.

Rip & Tan: How do you approach hosting that’s inclusive for drinkers and non-drinkers alike?

Mélanie Masarin: It’s easy! I always make sure there’s something for everyone—a few good bottles of wine, and an equally good selection of non-alcoholic options. I love a big punch bowl that can be spiked or not—no one feels left out.

Rip & Tan: What are your go-to tips for creating a special holiday gathering without relying on alcohol?

Mélanie Masarin: It’s really about the people, the music, the lighting, and the energy. A warm room and good food go a long way beyond any drink ever could. That said, I’m not here to police anyone—just to make sure everyone feels comfortable and welcome.
