DIY: Floral Crowns
February 16, 2016

When I stumbled upon Flower Girl Los Angeles Kelsey Harper’s gorgeous floral crowns on Pinterest, I fell in love…and when I learned that she and Petecia (whose smudge bundles I featured yesterday) were friends, a collaboration seemed too perfect not to arrange. I’ve always loved the look of a floral crown for special get-togethers, and learning how to make one that would smell amazing and dry beautifully was that much more appealing. And for our afternoon of floral DIY-ing, I wore my favorite new Flannel Boyfriend Shirt.
We began by taking two pieces of green cloth-covered floral stem wire (more than enough to fit the circumference of the head), overlapping them at the center, and twisting together. Next, we measured our heads and twisted the ends of the wire together to create a circle base.
Once we had our wire base, we began adding greenery to it by attaching with brown cloth-covered floral wire (starting with smaller greens and adding as we went). Kelsey shared that she typically builds her bases with greenery, often using sage or lavender stocks as they look best. Lastly, we added an array of colorful fragrant flowers, securing by twist-tying with the same brown floral wire. And when finished, we hung them to dry in the kitchen (a space out of direct light is best).
The end result was crowns as beautiful as they were fragrant, and I can’t wait to make them again with my little lady. XXJKE
