Our Current Home Décor Obsession: The Hedgehouse Throwbed
June 22, 2016

To me, a dream home is one that feels stylish, intimate, and comfortable, whether you have two people over or twenty. Luckily, in California you can entertain outdoors almost year-round, which helps create opportunities for different setups and because of this, I try to make some elements in our home flexible, so that things can be moved and adjusted to work with whatever we have going on. One such element, the Hedgehouse throwbed, is my new obsession. It’s a down-filled, linen mattress that can be used indoors or outdoors for extra seating, or to make a sturdier piece of furniture more luxurious for guests.
Hedgehouse was started by Beata Henrich in her garage in 2010. “I knew exactly what I wanted”, she told us, so it wasn’t long before the Los Angeles brand was off the ground and starting to amass a loyal following. Beata, who grew up on the East Coast and studied fashion design, envisioned something a step up from a throw blanket or pillow, that would add comfort to any situation that demanded it, while still being a beautiful object for the home. Beata saw endless ideas for how to use a throwbed in her own life— “By the pool, in the TV room, on a boat. For Saturday-night sleepovers. Cocktail parties on a rooftop. At the beach or while camping”—and knew others, particularly those who entertain regularly, would be able to relate.
Hedgehouse, anchored by this genius creation, continues to grow and thrive. The brand also sells lush down-filled pillows and travel towels, and plans to introduce throwbeds in cotton velvet this fall. That said, if you’re new to the brand, I recommend starting with the original throwbed in a gorgeous summer stripe. I think you’ll find it’s just the stylish add-on you need for summer hangouts at home or down by the beach. XXJKE
