In Uniform: Clara Dyrhauge on the True Meaning of Scandinavian Style
September 25, 2024
On a crisp fall afternoon, we took to the streets with Clara Dyrhauge to discuss a trending sartorial topic—Scandinavian style. The minimal, effortlessly-chic outfits are all over our feeds, but who better to define the trend than a Copenhagen-based art director who actually lives it? Below, a chat with Clara about her favorite spots in Copenhagen, what makes a capsule wardrobe, and how to channel your inner Scandi.

In Uniform: Clara Dyrhauge on the True Meaning of Scandinavian Style
Rip & Tan: How does your work influence your style?
Clara Dyrhauge: I am lucky to work with talented brands and creatives that continuously inspire me. While I am exposed to many trends through my work, my own style sticks to more classic items—which have always been my go-to. I actually think I would dress more or less the same regardless of my work.
Rip & Tan: What’s your daily approach to getting dressed?
Clara Dyrhauge: I try to prioritize wearing high-quality items that work again and again and for several outfits. For me, having good staples in my wardrobe makes getting dressed every day quite easy.
Rip & Tan: What does Scandinavian style mean to you?
Clara Dyrhauge: I walk and bike everywhere, all year round in Copenhagen, even if it means biking with heeled boots through a blizzard. Practicality doesn’t necessarily mean compromising on aesthetics—but for this reason, I value good-quality items that age well. Scandinavian style for me also means not being too sensitive around my items. I don’t have anything in my wardrobe that I wouldn’t actually use.

Rip & Tan: As we head into fall, what’s currently on your shopping list?
Clara Dyrhauge: During the colder months, I am always on the lookout for good, chic knitwear, as I very much rely on my turtlenecks and sweaters in the winter. I also love wool tailoring and its ability to dress up or down while staying warm.
Rip & Tan: How does your style evolve with the changing of the seasons?
Clara Dyrhauge: It’s easier for me to dress now that it’s getting colder, as I prefer to wear layers. During summer, my style tends to be more feminine, though I thrive better in trousers and knitwear rather than dresses and skirts.
Rip & Tan: What are your favorite spots to shop in Copenhagen?
Clara Dyrhauge: I rarely shop for myself in Copenhagen but if I do, I love to browse through IBlameLulu or Times Up Vintage which have great curated vintage selections. For beauty, I would recommend Arakai and I Love Beauty. My favorite type of shopping is for fresh food at local markets and shops.
Rip & Tan: Describe your ideal weekend in Copenhagen—where would we find you?
Clara Dyrhauge: I love to hang out in my neighborhood, in the Nørrebro area, where we have a lot of great wine bars, coffee shops, and restaurants. Most likely, you would find me here.
During the warmer seasons, I love spending my mornings or afternoons along the canals, reading and swimming.
Rip & Tan: What’s inspiring you right now?
Clara Dyrhauge: I am lucky to be flexible with my work, which allows me to travel and explore a lot these days. Meeting people, eating new places, and working in different ways always keeps me inspired and on my toes. I am currently in New York which has been a great source of inspiration.
