Inside Brigette Romanek’s Whimsical, Parisian-Inspired Guest Bedroom

Rip & Tan: Walk us through this space. What was your vision?

Brigette Romanek: This room was all about creating a sophisticated, cozy, artsy, retreat. I wanted it to feel serene at the same time. The mural brings in a historical element, like murals we used to see in homes built in the early 1900s. That’s the soulfulness in the space.

At the same time, the mix of colors—soft pink, and neutral tones brings the softness, keeping it all balanced and grounded. An eclectic mix! My vision was to create a space that feels stylish, cozy, and beautiful. You feel  relaxed, but also feel inspired.

Rip & Tan: Why did you choose these specific Jenni Kayne Home pieces? How do they help make this room feel like home?

Brigette Romanek: Jenni Kayne pieces are all about understated elegance. I could have an entire room of her pieces and I would feel relaxed. I also like mixing her pieces with contemporary and vintage finds since they blend harmoniously. The furniture brings warmth and texture without competing with the design.

It’s all about creating a space that’s both comfortable and thoughtful. The soft, neutral tones of the Jenni Kayne pieces make this space feel approachable and inviting.

Rip & Tan: How does this room feel like a reflection of your design ethos?

Brigette Romanek: This room really embodies my “Livable Luxe” philosophy. It’s refined but not overly polished. Everything in the space has a purpose and a story, but it’s also designed for living.

The mix of high-end pieces with more accessible finds is key here. I love that this room feels curated but never too formal—it’s meant to be lived in, enjoyed, and admired. The pink bed, for example, brings a playful twist while still being sophisticated. It’s all about that balance of beauty and function.

Rip & Tan: Walk us through how you sourced and styled some of your favorite pieces in this room.

Brigette Romanek: The mural is one of my favorite elements. I wanted something that would instantly set the tone for the room and make it feel immersive. The bed is another standout. I chose it for its unexpected pop of color and how it contrasts with the more neutral palette. The chaise lounge adds a sculptural element while still being functional, perfect for relaxing with a book. Every piece here was chosen to contribute to a cohesive, comfortable, and stylish space.

Rip & Tan: How did you style your Jenni Kayne Home pieces to make them feel special?

Brigette Romanek: I styled the Jenni Kayne pieces by layering them with more eclectic elements—like the sculpture and the contemporary playful furniture—to make sure they felt personal and unique. The key to making something feel special is in the mix.

I combined the clean lines and neutral tones of Jenni Kayne with more playful and unexpected pieces, creating a contrast that feels thoughtful but not too formal while still being sophisticated.

Rip & Tan: Do you have any secrets to designing a bedroom? Any details we should keep in mind?

Brigette Romanek: The biggest secret to designing a bedroom is to make it all about you. It’s the perfect starting point to the design process. Make sure the room is a sanctuary, somewhere you want to spend time.

The bed, of course, is the centerpiece, so invest in great linens and the right mattress. Beyond that, focus on lighting—layered lighting is key to creating mood and warmth. And finally, don’t be afraid to have a bit of fun. A bedroom should be personal, so include things that bring you joy, whether that’s a bold color, a quirky piece of furniture, or artwork that makes you smile.
