An Autumn-Inspired Outdoor Gathering
September is a busy time of year for people—between school starting, summer travel winding down, and work obligations kicking into high gear—but I love taking a moment to reconnect with friends and share stories from the summer in between all of the hurriedness. It’s also a beautiful time of year to entertain outdoors, in California and everywhere really, as the nights are beginning to get a bit cooler but it’s still quite comfortable outside. Thus, we got a group together recently for a low-key but elegant dinner under the pretty string lights in my backyard.
We started with rustic wooden farm tables and chairs from Found Vintage Rentals, which created a dining room experience instead of feeling like patio furniture. The reclaimed wood was so beautiful, there was no sense in covering it up with linens, so we put white Heath Ceramics plates, silver cutlery, and simple glassware from CB2 on the table along with some neutral linen napkins. We added color and texture with a floral garland created by Kristen Caissie of Moon Canyon. Kristen used sage, eucalyptus, tuberose, scabiosa, piers, and astilbe to create the lush, dusty-hued arrangement. To add a little bit of mood we finished the table with soft gray pillar candles of varying sizes.
I always love making a little favor for guests to take home so, in the spirit of fall, we put together small Weck jars filled with homemade jam. Each one was wrapped with a hand-written nametag, so they functioned as place cards as well. See below for all the inspired decor elements and stay tuned tomorrow for recipes and photos from the meal, which was put together by one of my favorite restaurants in LA, Sqirl. XXJKE
