What to Pack for a Weekend at the Lake
July 25, 2016

As far as weekend trips go, it doesn’t get more all-American than a trip to the lake. We spend time in Lake Tahoe in the summer and I look forward to it all year long. There’s something about the rugged yet serene environment that instantly forces you to unplug from technology and connect with nature and the people around you. It’s always a really special time for us.
A trip to the lake—any lake—calls for sturdier fabrics than what you might bring to the beach. Instead of floaty dresses and silk camisoles, I reach for classic blue jeans, cotton tops, and sturdy leather ankle boots when packing for the trip. Our new Field Boot is actually inspired by Lake Tahoe. I wanted to make a feminine version of a men’s deck shoe that could work with a dress or jeans equally well. A boot like this is perfect for transitioning from the rocky shoreline, to the forest, to the center of town without skipping a beat.
A big sun hat, a pair of sunglasses, and a light sweater are also essential; anything to extend the amount of time you can be comfortable outdoors. We love to swim, hike, have picnics, and serve meals outside so it helps to have those essentials on hand. Sometimes I’ll bring a few Hedgehouse throwbeds to wherever we’re stationed. Not only are they beautiful, they create additional seating for whoever decides to join in on the fun. XXJKE
