Three Classic Outfits Styled by Katherine Power

Not only is WhoWhatWear’s Katherine Power a great friend of mine, she’s also an incredible woman with fantastic style. That’s why, in addition to interviewing her about everything from work to interior design, I also asked her to put together a few looks for our Styled By series. Katherine describes her personal style as “classic, neutral, and modern”, which makes her the perfect person to show you how to style basics in interesting ways. Her trick is to focus on the proportions and mix textures, in lieu of bright colors or loud accessories.

When putting together an outfit, Katherine told us she usually starts with bottoms. “Depending on my mood, I’ll chose a pant or a skirt, and build from there” she told us. When the bottoms are statement-making—like culottes in navy or black—Katherine focuses on simple, menswear-inspired tops and shoes. (Katherine only wears heels at work, but our mules are an off-duty favorite.) With basic denim, on the other hand, she recommends a more dramatic top. The bell-sleeve blouse from WhoWhatWear’s collection for Target, can take a pair of slim jeans to another level.

You’ll notice Katherine didn’t pile on too many accessories with any of the looks. “I wear the same gold Celine bracelet everyday” she commented. “Sometimes I’ll do a gold earring or necklace too, but I tend to keep my accessories very minimal.” I’m the same way—I think it’s best to let simple but beautiful pieces speak for themselves.  XXJKE
