Natural Remedies: Apple Cider Vinegar

I shared my morning elixir – warm water, apple cider vinegar, Manuka honey, lemon, turmeric and, if I’m feeling run down, cayenne pepper – in my recent post on the benefits of Manuka honey. But apple cider vinegar is an equally important component in this recipe for general wellness. With natural cleansing and healing properties, apple cider vinegar has been shown beneficial in everything from stimulating digestion and natural weight loss to warding off toxins, reducing pain and inflammation, and even encouraging healthy skin.

While on a recent (incredible) trip to Mangawhai, NZ, I came across the most wonderful health food store after a meal at Bennett’s Cafe. They sold apple cider vinegar with Manuka honey inside, and I was instantly hooked. Manuka honey truly is amazing, but when coupled with apple cider vinegar it’s even better.

Like Manuka, the key to apple cider vinegar is not to overheat – it will diminish the healing properties. Instead, I just add a little warm water – never boiling – to the vinegar. Also key in maintaining the beneficial properties is making sure that your apple cider vinegar is raw, unfiltered and organic. My choice at home: Bragg Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar. It is unfiltered, unheated, unpasteurized, 5% acidity, and contains the amazing Mother of Vinegar (the most beneficial part of ACV). XXJKE
