Holiday Home Décor with Amy Blessing

December 04, 2017

A cozy living room with a lit brick fireplace, adorned with holiday home decor like a green garland and wreath. A Christmas tree in a basket stands nearby, and a wooden coffee table with books and a bowl sits in front.

From Valentine’s Day cards to Halloween treat bags, event planner Amy Blessing has a way with seasonal crafts. Not only are Amy’s DIY projects easy and fun, but they always look beautiful thanks to her keen eye for materials. When it came time to decorate our home for the holidays, I knew my friend would have some unexpected, totally charming ideas.

Using an array of magnolia leaves, noble fir, eucalyptus, eucalyptus pods, and a few wild flowers Amy created a series of garlands and wreaths for our living room, dining room, and entryways that were just beautiful. I love the way these lush green colors work against the neutral tones in our home, and that each creation has a touch of color to give it depth and an unexpected twist. To make your own wreaths and garlands at home, Amy recommends spreading out all of your materials on a big table and using gardening shears and floral wire to prune and secure as you go. You should have some type of form for the materials to grasp onto such as grapevine, wire, or birch twig.

In addition to Amy’s garlands and wreaths, I brought in a small Christmas tree from Hollyflora.  I love its simplicity, light green color, and how festive it makes our living room feel—especially when it’s cool enough for a roaring fire as well! XXJKE
