Floral Print

February 11, 2016

Several colorful, floral-patterned toddler dresses and skirts are hanging on wooden hangers, with a crib visible in the blurred background. The clothes are neatly arranged in a warm, cozy nursery room.

Floral prints are everywhere this spring and I’ve totally embraced them – in moderation! While memories of floral on floral as a kid in the early 90’s keep me just a tad reserved about using it too much, I think a splash of the print can make an outfit. Here are some of my favorite moments for floral this season, which show how modern and beautiful the print can be.

Celine

Celine used an amazing floral print this spring. I love their floral blazer and picked one up in Paris. It looks great with my Jenni Kayne blue and white collared shirt and an orangey-red lip – Mac’s Lady Danger. I also love Celine’s floral motorcycle jacket and it looks amazing the way they showed it with matching pants. I guess too much floral can sometimes be a really good thing, but be careful wearing it everyday.

Erdem

Erdem always has the most beautiful floral prints and I love the one they used this spring. My favorite is, not surprisingly, this long floral gown shot on my beautiful friend Guinevere. For a more affordable version of the print, they also made some great scarves with it. I also love the way they showed these shorts, mixing the two prints in their runway show. If you’re not familiar with Erdem, get to know it. The small company makes truly exquisite clothing.

Mary Katrantzou

When I was in Paris walking through Colette, I was introduced to Mary Katrantzou’s collection of digital floral prints. They are a little bold for me but my friend Ambre picked up the floral motorcycle jacket and it looks super chic on her.

Denim

Floral jeans have been everywhere this season and I have a couple favorites. I love Joe’s Jeans’ “Tainted Rose” and Current Elliot’s “Haystack.” I also like the Citizens of Humanity “Chloe” printed shorts. The girls in my office have the jeans version called “ Mandy” and wear them with my Jenni Kayne guava crotchet knit and D’orsay flats – it looks great.

Liberty Shades

I came across these Liberty floral sunglasses and think they’re really cool. They collaborated with RetroSuperFuture to produce a unique range of sunglasses, all handmade in Italy. I like the Pepper Liberty and Elysian Liberty frames. They come with matching printed boxes that look as cool as the glasses.

Liberty

Nothing says floral like Liberty of London. They always have amazing liberty prints and other floral prints in the best accessories. I love their notebooks with floral spines and their floral printed cards – they make great gifts!

In the Garden

I’ve fallen in love with these floral garden accessories from Cecila Birtwell. I first spotted them on NYBG Shop and saw them again recently at Botany in the Brentwood Country Mart. I just ordered the shovel set and the watering can is great too.

When I was in Paris recently I found these seed packets from Merci and couldn’t help myself. We just planted some in my garden. The packaging killed me and they would make a great addition to a gift.

For the Kids

Merci

The first time I went to Merci, they did a collaboration with Liberty of London and had a liberty printed car in their courtyard. The entire set-up was amazing and I was desperate for a little girl to buy the cute Merci-Liberty-Bonpoint collection that filled the bottom floor of the store. On my most recent trip, I visited Merci and the entire entrance to the store was filled with floral prints again! Hanging from the ceilings were dress forms covered in flowers. I picked up an adorable floral suitcase and cute floral print necklace for Ripley.

Bonpoint

As you already know, Bonpoint is my absolute favorite kid’s line. They always have the sweetest floral prints for little girls. This spring I fell in love with their floral jumper that comes in a great green , blue and orange . My friends Alyson and Katie bought Rip the orange romper for her birthday and she’s been living in it. Bonpoint also makes the chicest bibs – they are laminated floral prints so they look great and are practical.

Lale

From the suitcase to the travel case to the sleeping bag, Lale makes amazing accessories for little girls. They’re cute for the playroom and traveling and their floral prints are gorgeous. I’ve always loved their flag garland and I think it would be great for a playroom or bedroom.

Barnabe

When I was pregnant with Ripley, my friend Ambre bought me the cutest things from Barnabe Aime Le Café, an adorable French website. They use great liberty floral prints for everything and I fell in love with the towel , bib , and musical doll she gave me! XXJKE
