Fall Statement Pieces in Striking Black and White

As you ready your wardrobe for the season ahead—the cooler nights out, the holiday entertaining, the longer work weeks—it can make sense to pare down and refocus your wardrobe first. I love to go through my closet this time of year, packing away certain pieces, repairing, donating, and recycling items as needed, and making a list of what I want to add to my wardrobe. I know The Row’s small velvet tote is on my list for fall, for example, along with some of the strong black pieces from my new collection. I usually gravitate towards softer neutral tones, but I’m feeling how grounding and striking black looks in a wardrobe—and in the home, too!

This fall we have two perfect black pants; the ultimate cool-girl staple. One is a high-rise skinny jean by LA label Re/Done that’s so flattering. The other is a pair of cropped, flared cords from my fall collection—they have an exposed zipper in the front for an edgy finish. We also have beautiful black tops in the lineup too. A paper-thin striped turtleneck made out of our signature cashmere jersey is one of my favorites. I also love our simple silk camisole with lace trim layered under our black cashmere v-neck cardigan for a textured, romantic look. A simple black flat is always important too, whether you love to wear a lot of the color or not. This season we did our signature d’Orsay flat in black velvet and I can’t wait to wear it.  They’ll work for holiday parties, of course, but I also love them paired with a T-shirt, denim, and a sweater on any ordinary fall day.
