Dog Accessories
February 13, 2016

My friends Eve and Leanne both have adorable puppies at home – Ringo and Lotti – and they kept asking me for suggestions when it came to outfitting their pets in style. Being a huge dog lover and appreciating all the small details in life, I wanted to share mine and Yoko’s favorite dog accessories with R+T.
Stores
I do most of my pet shopping online, but these are two of my favorite dog stores: Maxwell Dog in LA and George in Marin. Also, Nathan Turner and Nicky Kehoe, two amazing home stores in LA, always have great dog beds and accessories.
Dog Toys
Rope toys
Yoko loves rope toys and I always like the way they look. I love all the Good Karma rope toys from Jax and Bones. Barneys also has an adorable Jax and Bones pretzel. Mungo and Maud offers great, simple rope tug toss toys along with lots of other great toys. Harry Barker sells great rope toys on their website, as well. I like their rope tug and toss toys, rope fish, and rope bone.
Antlers
Another favorite toy in our house are antlers. Yoko loves to chew on them, they are the ultimate bone. They come in lots of different sizes and I love the way they look!
Collars and Leashes
After lots of trial and error, I have found great collars and leashes for Yoko over the years.
Found My Animal
Found My Animal is my latest find. They make great woven rope collars and leashes and I just began selling them in both of my stores – or you can order them online.
Filson
You know how much I love Filson, and lucky for me, they make great dog products, as well. I love their leather dog collar and leash. They also make a great harness.
Mango and Maud
Mungo and Maud is a great collection from the UK that I found at a gift show years ago and was obsessed with. I love their woven leather collar and rope and leather collar, which comes in natural, brown and grey. They also have a great harness that comes in brown and grey – I’m ordering one for Yoko. To go with their collars, they have great rope leashes in natural, chocolate and grey. They also sell a great chocolate leather woven leash.
Barneys
I always find great accessories at Barneys, and my favorite leashes are from there. I love their canvas dog leash and have it in a couple colors. It’s durable and the perfect length.
Brookfarm General Store
Another favorite, Brookfarm General Store, also has a great brown leather collar and leash that is simple and classic.
Dog Beds
My good friend Amanda makes gorgeous dog beds out of old rugs and linen and has them scattered around her house. She taught me to find old cheap, distressed rugs at the flea market and have them made into beds by stuffing them with down and using linen or burlap for the bottom. That’s what I’ve done and have great beds around the house that I’m in love with. Any upholsterer can do it, and sometimes Nathan Turner has some similar ones in his store that he makes.
If you are not as ambitious and just want to buy a dog bed, here are a couple I love. Nickey Kehoe makes great beds out of old army tents, which look amazing. Filson makes wonderful, simple round beds in small and large, in tan. George in Marin also does a burlap bed that is great in square or round. Mango and Maud offers some great simple, classic beds in an array or colors and sizes, as well. For a beach house or a more nautical vibe, I like Harry Barker’s hemp vintage stripe bed.
Crates
One thing I never like about puppies is their crates! Mr Herzher’s wicker crate is the best looking crate I have ever seen and I would definitely get one if I had to crate train.
Water Bowls
At home
We have Heath dog bowls that we love, but they are impossible to find! The good news is that most Heath bowls will work perfectly for dogs.
Travel Bowls
I always love having a travel water bowl in my car in case Yoko needs it. They are also great to bring on long walks or hikes. Filson makes a great one and so does Found My Animal.
Dog Food Storage
When I was living in my first house in Santa Monica Canyon, I discovered how important proper dog food storage was – rats where eating the dog food and it was awful! Here are a few great ones I have found from Mango and Maud and Harry Barker. My favorite ones are from Garden Trading Company; they make bins in small, medium, large and extra large. They also make a great holiday set for traveling that is super chic.
For the Car
Filson also makes great dog accessories for on the go. I love the idea of their dog seat saver, but can’t use it because of the kids’ baby seats. Harry Barker sells a great quilted car seat cover that is similar.
I hope you find something great for your pooch – and for all you cat lovers, stay tuned! XXJKE
