Book of the Day: American Beauty

February 16, 2016

Two coffee table books are stacked on a black table. The top book, American Beauty, features a woman with an American flag. The bottom book is Diana Vreeland. Nearby are a potted plant and a square decorative tray.

In 2010, Vogue alumna Claiborne Swanson Frank began her first body of work as a photographer – a collection of portraits of the women in her life. This collection would in time serve as inspiration for her debut book, American Beauty, a compilation that pays tribute to the modern American woman, and a work that I’m humbled to be a part of.

To make her vision a reality, Claiborne traveled across the country alongside Genevieve Bahrenburg, who co-produced the book and wrote its accompanying text, to style and photograph each of the women inside. The result: a gorgeous compilation of women – each uniquely and quintessentially American – captured in the environment that defines them best. XXJKE
