Getaway: Apple Picking at Los Rios Rancho

February 16, 2016

A cardboard box labeled “Granny Rowden” sits under an apple tree, surrounded by green grass and yellow wildflowers, with scattered apples on the ground nearby.

Some of my favorite things about this time of year are the seasonal treats that accompany it. As days grow a bit shorter and nights become a bit cooler, I get excited for all things fall, not the least of which are homemade apple pie and fresh apple cider.

To stock up on crisp and delicious supplies, I visited Rileys at Los Rios Rancho, a picturesque, almost nostaligic, working apple farm in Oak Glen, CA. Not only were we able to pick our own beautiful apples – we loaded up on Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Granny Smith varieties – we also pressed our own apple cider. The best part: we left with the key ingredients for the apple pies and apple cocktail that I’ll be featuring later this week. XXJKE
