Floral Smudge Bundles: A DIY Workshop with Amy Blessing
If you step into any Jenni Kayne store, one item that displayed season after season is a selection of smudge bundles. They top my list of favorite things. I always have them in my home, and I love to make and give them as gifts. In an effort to share this passion with others, Amy Blessing and I hosted a workshop at my West Hollywood boutique.
Guests enjoyed an array of cheeses with crackers and nuts and browsed the store before we began the project. That morning Amy went to Topanga Canyon to harvest fresh white sage, which we paired with lavender and multicolored spray roses from the Downtown LA flower market. Tip: Take the roses out of water a day before using them so they’re more malleable. The materials smelled incredible on their own, and once we bundled them together and tied them with linen yarn, the aroma was intoxicating.
When creating a bundle at home, make sure to secure the elements tightly using as little yarn as possible so that it’s mostly florals and greens that burn when you light it. At the end of the workshop, everyone went home with their beautiful floral creations in a linen bag with grosgrain ribbon and a box of Jenni Kayne matches. The afternoon was so wonderful and creative, and I can’t wait to host more events like it in the future. XXJKE
