Floral Arrangements with Blume & Plume: A White & Green Autumnal Display
I’ve had the pleasure of working with the amazing Maurice Harris of Bloom & Plume for ages – apart from being one of my very favorite floral designers, he’s also the genius behind the incredible window installations at my Almont store. Ever a source of inspiration and creativity, he was kind enough to walk me through assembling a Halloween-inspired arrangement both beautiful and festive (without feeling too literal). The components of our holiday display: a variety of white pumpkins (my favorite kind) and gourds, green grapes, white proteas and white hellebores, all nicely placed in a wooden bowl. See Maurice’s tips for creating this easy, outside the box autumnal arrangement, below. XXJKE
To begin, Maurice chose a beautiful wooden bowl to complement the white and green tones of our display. Next, we lined our bowl with plastic to protect the wood (a small garbage bag works well for the job). From there, we placed a floral oasis on top of our liner. You can find an oasis online or at any craft store, and for this arrangement in particular, all elements apart from the hellebores sat in the oasis. Maurice shared that the hellebores do not like being in the oasis, and instead do better in water tubes. He also noted that if arranging on a table, glass votives are a good alternative to the oasis – just know that you will have to refill the water constantly as cut flowers like to drink a lot!
Next, we began placing our elements inside the bowl, beginning with the biggest piece first (the large white pumpkin). Then, we added our gourds, proteas and grapes, finishing the arrangement with white hellebores popping out from in between the stacked pumpkins. The end result: a fresh and festive autumn display.
