Classic Gingerbread Houses with Amy Blessing
Every holiday season we look forward to decorating gingerbread houses with Amy Blessing, expert on all things DIY. Our yearly gathering is always so much fun, and we love seeing the kids get creative with their gingerbread designs. Last year we made the most unique gingerbread tents, and Jenni and Amy always have the best ideas that add something new to this shared tradition. As always, Jenni’s home was cheerfully decorated and holiday-ready. The craft table was set with a beautiful centerpiece made from the same seasonal foliage as Amy’s garlands and wreaths. Pomegranates nestled amongst the magnolia leaves, eucalyptus, and noble fir—a welcome pop of bright color against Parachute’s neutral linen tablecloth (which made cleaning up so easy).
This year, we bought gingerbread kits from Bed Bath and Beyond, freeing up some time to whip up homemade icing with a powdered sugar base, a healthier alternative to artificial flavors and colors. Crushed peppermints, chocolate chips, sprinkles and nuts from Whole Foods let the kids get creative with their toppings. We loved the mini pine cones—it’s those charming details that lend a super special touch. We always have so much fun with Amy, and this get-together was no exception. Spending time with kids around the holidays and creating traditions together reminds us of what’s important this season: making memories with loved ones that last. XXJKE
