Musings on Motherhood, Style, & Classics For Life

May 2, 2022

Let’s start with a simple question: what does style mean to you? Maybe it’s the vintage blazer that stays with you season after season or the pair of shoes that you can’t help but borrow from your mom. Or is it something beyond that? To us, style is about so much more than what’s in your wardrobe—it’s the encapsulation of memories and moments big or small, and the timeless nature of it all.

That’s why this Mother’s Day, we’re introducing an approach to dressing that always rings true: trends may change, but classics are for life. We asked women we love to show us how they make Jenni Kayne their own—and to help define what truly makes something a tried and true.

What is the best lesson you've learned from one another?

“To be myself regardless of the situation.  I love that she led by example in prioritizing authenticity.  This is something I keep in mind no matter what room I walk into.” – Roti

“She has taught me that it’s ok to splurge on items that you’re passionate about.  She has also taught me to take time to appreciate the beauty in art, fine foods, and quality vintage shops. Roti knows how to stop and enjoy; I love that about her.” – Paula

"I’ve learned to see a new beauty in simplicity; in fashion as well as décor and florals. A lot of times less can really be more. Oh, and I’ve learned the importance of comfortable shoes!" – Paula

What makes something a classic for life?

“A classic for life is hard for me to find given that I tend to be a heavy user of everything in my closet. I’m not a particularly graceful person and do have to replace things more frequently than others. That said, lifelong classics are my favorites that really can stand the test of time in terms of durability. I especially love pieces that become heirlooms where I could see myself passing them onto my children, whether that’s jewelry or something leather that patinas beautifully over time, it’s the special pieces that always make me happy to have around me and also can withstand spending years under my care.” – Julia

"I really like to keep things simple with my style, and to rely on luxe materials and classic shapes to keep me feeling pulled together even when I’m constantly rushing. I love to feel relaxed in my wardrobe even when I’m dressed up." – Julia

How would you describe your style?

“I would describe my style as simple and classic. I like to be comfortable, love a white sneaker and a clutch for the evening, and love a large bag, jeans, and a t-shirt for the day. I also think Willow has the best style—she’s fun, easy, and fearless. She always looks beautiful and has incredible hair. She feels very edgy Californian and looks way better than I did at 14!” – Leanne

“I’d describe my style as Y2K. I love vintage clothing, too!” – Willow

"My daughter has taught me to have fun, always laugh, and to enjoy life." – Leanne
